Jacques Dubochet (born 8 June 1942) is a retired Swiss biophysicist. He is a former employee of EMBL Heidelberg and a professor at the University of Lausanne (1987-2007). He shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry together with Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson in 2017 "for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure In 2017, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to three key pioneers in the birth and development of cryoelectron microscopy (cryo-EM): Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank, and Richard Henderson. As a starting graduate student in England, moving from physics to biology and the study of macromolecular structure, I had the fortune of attending one of the early conferences in the, at the time – Jacques Dubochet There’s no better reminder that awareness needs to include the positive side of dyslexia than a recent Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry sharing that he is dyslexic. In Jacques’ tongue-in-cheek University of Lausanne resume , he begins by saying that he was conceived by optimistic parents. Note Jacques Dubochet Impossible Water Trouble It would be great if you could cool the water and immobilise the molecules, though keeping the structure, because when it's frozen, when it's immobilised, you can have it in the electron microscope and the water will not evaporate because in the electron microscope, it must be under vacuum, and water at normal temperature evaporates. Jacques Dubochet, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2017, donated an official replica of his Nobel medal to EMBL, “in testimony of my great thankfulness to an institution that, in my view, would deserve to be the laureate of the Prize.” Jacques Dubochet.
